  • Xft Font System

Xft Font System aims to replace #202205051943. It is client-based where local applications can directly access 202205051728 installed in the computer. It also supports font smoothing and other advance typographic features which improve the font rendering overall. You can tweak its configuration in the file /etc/fonts/local.conf. Use fc-cache after making changes on the configuration file.

  • X Core Font

X Core Font is a #202205051728 system that was traditionally used in #202205051624. One could add the path to installed fonts by modify the configuration file:

  • Outline Font

Outline #202205051728 is scalable, meaning that it fits to the resolution accordingly. This could result in a worse quality when compare to 202205051731 where the pixels are fixed. In order to figure out what scale should be used for a particular resolution, Outline Font requires more CPU time to compute the optimal scale to display the font. For modern CPU, it does not seem to be a problem.

  • Bitmap Font

Bitmap #202205051728 uses bitmap graphics, that is pixels that stored in an array, to display glyph. Since it uses fix pixels, it needs to specifically adjust to variety of resolutions, which inflate its size.
