Network Management System (NMS)

NMS is a set of #hardware and/or #software tools that allows administration of individual components of a network within a larger Network Management# framework. It consists of Management Station or Manager#, Management Agent#, Management Information Base (MIB)#, and Network Management Protocol#. These components assist in Network Device# discovery, network device monitoring, network performance analysis, and intelligent notifications.

Note: Network device discovery could be utilised to detect unauthorised access point.

Management Station or Manager

Management Station is a stand-alone system or part of the #shared system providing interface for human network manager which includes set of Network Management# applications such as data analysis and fault recovery. It is an interface to monitor and control network. It is responsible for translating manager’s requirements into monitoring and control of remote elements and extracting network management information from Management Agent.
Management Agent

Management Agent is a Network Device# equipped with agent software from #Network Management System (NMS) which allow remote management from the Management Station or Manager. In addition of requiring to respond to requests for information and/or action, it asynchronously and voluntarily sends the manager its information.
