Domain Name Server (DNS)

ISP forms the backbone of the Internet as they provide services for accessing, using and participating it. Though they have a great power on controlling what content should their users access, it is easily by-passable by changing Domain Name Server (DNS) or using Virtual Private Network (VPN)#.

Terraform is an #open source automation tool used for #Infrastructure as Code (IaC) which is available in multiple platforms such as Windows, Apple and Linux. It can manage on-premise server, Cloud Computing# (AWS, Azure, Google Could Platform), #Virtual Machine (VM) (VMWare), Version Control System (VCS) and protocol (HTTP, TLS, Domain Name Server (DNS)) using Terraform Providers# available in Terraform Registry#.

The domain name resolution is done by Docker’s built-in Domain Name Server (DNS)# server which is running at 127.0.0.11.

In a lab environment, it is recommended to disable Domain Name Server (DNS) lookup with the command no ip domain-lookup on the router. It is to speed up the configuration process as the router will try to search anything that it don’t know on a TFTP server. Often, the server doesn’t exist, and without the command, the router will waste times on figuring out things that it doesn’t understand, typically a wrong typed command.

Note: By default, #202204272021 use Domain Name Server (DNS)# for name lookup. This could be circumvented by using the option ansible_host where custom name is assigned to an IP address.
