  • Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM)

WDM is one of the implementation of #Multiplexing, classified as #Frequency Division Multiplexing (FDM), which utilises the feature of the light as a wave. Since light waves of different wavelengths do not interfere with one another within a medium, it is possible to multiplex different channel travelling in different wavelengths in a single Fibre-Optic Cable simultaneously.

  • Virtual Circuit

Virtual Circuit is a logical connection frequently used in #Packet Switching especially in #Frame Relay. It can be pass through several data communications equipments (DCE) throughout the network. Multiplexing# multiple virtual circuit into a single physical circuit is possible.

  • Time-Division Multiplexing (TDM)

TDM is one of the implementation of #Multiplexing where each end station own a particular time slot for the network transmission. This means that each data stream has an assigned slot in a repeating sequence which is more efficient compare to assigning a physical connection to each of them. In the context of optical transmission, this means that several signals are travelling in a single wavelength but is divided into several channels using time slot.

  • Segmentation

Segmentation is a networking technique which break messages or communication into pieces. With Multiplexing, this could allow the interleaving of different messages. That being said, it does add up the complexity of network transmission as those pieces need to be assembled at the destination.

  • Packet Switching

Similar to 202207150846. Involves statistical Multiplexing# of packets. However, there is no strict rule on which path should the packet flow.
